How to pass system date stored in a PDS member to symbolic ?

I have to read the date from the ps file or any member of pds file which has the date in the following format yyyymmdd. how can I use this date in place of current date as symbolic in the jcl. You could convert the first record of the input file to VB, determine it's FB LRECL as RDW length-4 and then generate symbols for the positions you need based on that LRECL, and use those symbols in the JOINKEYS step.
