Thanks, Veera. We did end up using NOTIFY, but the user isn't tech savvy, and I was hoping for something that would allow a short text message to be sent. An E-mail trigger won't suffice, as we need to have her know immediately that the job failed so as not to submit the next.

Thanks again.

I don't know if I'd call it a "boom", but many companies and State agencies here in the US still use Mainframe legacy applications for very large databases. I work for the Florida Department of Education, and we still have three major applications using COBOL, EasyPlus and PL1 programs to perform Pa...

Unproffesional postings

I just discovered this forum site, and it has a lot of promise to help those of us still working in the Mainframe arena. But, I also see a lot of childish sexually explicit nonsense popping up. Try qwerying the system on your command line - type: qw u4094 then enter. Doing this gives me a listing of vendors/systems generating this error code. Selecting the one that your shop uses, will give you the explanation as per the MVS/QuickRef documentation. For instance, for IBM's IMS/ESA Messages:...

Yes. I do this to get the record count of tape files. Use the basic Copy All function, and copy it to a dummy output dataset. The printout will give you the record length.

Works for DASD files, but not for tape or GDG files.
For tapes, run a simple Syncsort job to copy the dataset to a dummy output, and the printout will give you the record count.

Sending the user a message when job abends?

Hello, this is my first post in this forum. Can't find my JCL book, so I'm hoping for a nudge in the right direction. 8) My co-worker is setting up a procedure to allow a user to submit a series of jobs from her desk, instead of going through our Production Control batch process. However, we want to...
