Dear All,

I am new to IMS DB & DC. I wanted to know how to define secondary index . Followings are my questions

1. Do i need to have another secondary database created ? My original Database does not have LCHILD and XDFLD field names.

2. If i create another database having LCHILD and XDFLD, how will i load data into it? i loaded my original data thru program using LS proc option.

Note: i am comparing with the concept of VSAM where we create ALT index after base cluster and BUILD it after.

Yes you have to create a secondary index database . LCHILD and XDFLD of original DB and secondary index should point to each other. Basically it is done in DBDGEN. Please contact your DBA to get it done. Application programmer has to just use the secondary index database name in the PROCSEQ parameter of PCB. and use the secondary index key field in the SSA.

Suggest you to contact your IMS DBA for creating secondary index for an existing DB.
