Tools in mainframes

Post by shekhar » Tue Nov 28, 2006 10:27 pm

:D Hi all....

This is my first ever post. Please explain me the difference between EXPEDITOR, FILE-AID & CHANGEMAN... Is there any order of preference when using these tools? Does every program needs to go thru all these?
Please help me in understanding as I am very new to Mainframes.
Thank you...

Top of this page, there is a hyperlink for 'HOME':
On the left side of the 'HOME' page under RESOURCES; then 'TOOLS', there are three (3) tutorials:
xpeditor -
fileaid -
changeman -

how to use and what they do.

JCL, SQL and code in programs have an irritating habit of doing what you say,
not what you meant.

Hi shekhar,

Welcome to this forum!!!

EXPEDITOR : In simple is just act as an debugger. We will test our program once done with the help of EXPEDITOR and will do the stepwise exicution of the program which might be useful to remove the logical error that we have.

FILE-AID : This is an tool for the file processing as the name itself defines it.With the help of this we may calculate the length of the include, compare two files, browse the VSAM file, Will also view any file with the help of include to see the formatted data tht this file have with respect to this include and much more....

CHANGEMAN : It is nothing but an version control tool tht help to retain the different version of the same program.we may create the new version as the change request comes to our end.we also use Endevour for the same.

When we done with our program we complie it with help of endevour and after removing error if any we may go thru EXPEDITOR to test our program and will use FILE-AID as we need.

Hope this will helpful for u!!
Also correct me if i am wrong.....:)
