How to remove DS name and record number from XMLGEN dataset

Post by ajit5144 » Tue Aug 06, 2013 8:31 pm

Hi,

I have a requirement to create and FTP files in Excel format ( not .CSV, header looks odd).

What I used to do is to create a file using XMLGEN batch mode and FTP it as excel extension (XLS) file, so that we can open it in MS excel. But,The problem , I am facing is

1. In FTP'd excel , The first column comes as Data set name ( like xxxx.Data) for all columns
2. The second column describes the record number.

The real data starts from Column 3 only.

These two fields are not required for me . Could anyone please let me know, How to eliminate these two fields.

Thanks,
Ajit

DikDude,

It will be really difficult deleting them one by one if you have records in XML structure(as i stated above that it is created by file aid XMLGEN process). I used to do deletion of column from excel sheet.

But, I want an option. where i don't need to delete these two columns. Its just like automating this, so that a single job can generate required output.

Thanks,
Ajit

I would suggest automating the deletion . . .

There should be NO manual work on the records.

Thats what I am looking for. Either an automation of deletion after producing them through XMLGEN or not to produce the records while doing XMLGEN.

But, the XML file is not an easy layout to deal with while doing automation.

Thanks...

Well, not everything is free and/or easy.

Sometimes we do have to do a bit of work. . .

If you post the first few XML records we can talk about an approah to get what you want.
