Unless you have an indexed file how do you expect File Aid to find your record without reading all the records before the one you want?

I Think you can use Quick option in Selection Cretiria.

in which you need to specify the position of the field ,length of the field and the value you want to search.

All of the records will still have to be read and bypassed . . .

I shouldn't think so - all records up to the one you want still have to be read because you do not know which one is the one you want - it could be the first it could be the last. If the file is keyed then you can search by key.

Lik NicC, i dont believe so.

Suggest you create a Very large test file and try both ways.

Suggest you run both in batch so there will be footprints to follow.
