Mainframe Basics

Post by laxmi_maha2000 » Thu Jul 03, 2008 6:25 pm

Hi
I have some doubts in basics:

1. What is TSO/E? What is MVS?

2. what is ISPF and ISPEXEC?

Basically I am trying to understand mainframes in very much basic level. Though we use these terms all the time, I could not get or differentiate few terms.

If you know any sites where I can get these information, please suggest.
Regards,
Lakshmi

google, or go straight to ibm and do a search there.

JCL, SQL and code in programs have an irritating habit of doing what you say,
not what you meant.

Hi,

Dick has given you a right direction, however for definition purposes..

TSO/E = Time Sharing Option / Extensions: The base for all TSO enhancements. It provides MVS users with additional functions, improved usability, and better performance.

MVS = Multiple Virtual Storage: One of the family of IBM operating systems for the System/370 or System/390 processor, such as MVS/ESA and MVS/XA.

ISPF= Interactive System Productivity Facility: An IBM licensed program that serves as a full-screen editor and dialog manager. ISPF provides a means of generating standard screen panels and running interactive dialogs for use at a display station. The customization dialogs are an ISPF application.

ISPEXEC Subcommand is used to request an ISPF Dialog Service.

Anuj
