I have a sequential file in which there are 50 records. Now I want to copy all the 50 records in the reverse order into a new file? The last record in the original file should be the first record in the new file. How can I do it?

You can use a DFSORT job like the following. I assumed your input file has RECFM=FB and LRECL=80, but the job can be changed appropriately for other attributes:

Code: Select all

//S1 EXEC PGM=SORT
//SYSOUT DD SYSOUT=*
//SORTIN DD DSN=...  input file (FB/80)
//SORTOUT DD DSN=...  output file (FB/80)
//SYSIN DD *
  INREC OVERLAY=(81:SEQNUM,5,ZD)
  SORT FIELDS=(81,5,ZD,D)
  OUTREC BUILD=(1,80)
/*
If you're not familiar with DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL, I'd suggest reading through "z/OS DFSORT: Getting Started". It's an excellent tutorial, with lots of examples, that will show you how to use DFSORT, DFSORT's ICETOOL and DFSORT Symbols. You can access it online, along with all of the other DFSORT books, from:
