Need suggestion for starting career again

Hi

I worked as a mainframes developer in COBOL and DB2 and had hands on experience of 2 years. i quit my job in 2007 to look after my daughter. i want to start my career again as i got break in my career i am not getting opportunities. Can anyone give me suggestions to enhance my career again..

i am thinking to do some certifications..will certifications help me out if yes what certifications can i do?
