Naresh,
Of course, the proficiency test is to test how much you know about mainframe technologies, and how well you can put it to use. Without knowing who is giving this test, there is no way of knowing what will be on it. The tester will probably test you on all languages, utilities, databases etc. that are used at the site. If it is a contract company they will probably be tested on a broad range of languages in use, utilities, etc.
This is to find out what your knowledge base is so you can be placed in an appropriate position. It is certainly not necessary to have an in-depth knowledge of all areas. Very, very few people will have a good working knowledge of a very broad range of technologies. You don?t want to be a ?Jack of all trades, Master of none?.
The only tips and tricks I know of for something like this is to have studied hard, have some practical experience in the field, skim through the study material the a day or couple of days before the test, get a good nights rest before, relax and give the test all you have. What you know is what you know. What you don?t, you don?t.
One bit of advice from someone that has interviewed, hired, and yes, fired people. Don?t get in over your head by remembering key words to throw out in an interview. Not to say you don?t go for a position that taxes everything you know, But its far better to start a new job and after the first few weeks have them think, Naresh is better than we thought he would be, rather then Naresh isn?t up to expectations. 
Let us know how you did.

Hi Dave,
I am very much thankful to you for your suggestions. Now I understood what exactly they are looking for. As it is a golden opportunity for me to go and work abroad, I am a bit tensed and nervous.
I am attending this test with 100 % confidence and will update the result on 6 th of November.
I am expecting more suggestions from you in the future as well.
Have a nice day.
