Need Suggestin to enhance career in Mainframes

Post by narinder4075 » Thu May 07, 2009 9:05 pm

Hi,

I am currently in a 24X7 Support Project from last one year in which we use JCL and DB2. My learnings are limited to only Job errors. There are very less opportunities to learn things in JCL and DB2.

Can anybody suggest how can I enhance my career in Mainframes?
Thanks,
Narinder.

Hi,

There are many options which can work for you if you are really serious:

1. Install heculeus at your Home PC and work with that.
2. Spend your spare time in reading manuals and then experiment on Mainframes.
3. Once you are rather comfortable with DB2 - you may go for it's certification.

There is other site which I recently found that allows you to create your RACF ID and they have simulted the Mainframes environment - I'm alos punting on that, I'll post that link for you as well but just now I don't have that handy.
Regards,
Anuj

Heculeus is an Emulator. In other words as they say, Hercules is an open source software implementation of the mainframe System/370 and ESA/390 architectures on windows.

Go through the link Natarajan has provided - that's the official website for Heculeus.

1. You should not append your post to totally unrelated thread.
2. Go through this link and pick the one of your choice.
