Tape volume insufficient problem

Post by mainuser » Mon Aug 06, 2007 8:25 am

I have a output file which has about 4 Crore (40000000 ) Records. I gave the output to write to TAPE

//OUTPUT1 DD DSN=JIPS.UTYU.MNS135NS.MNS13502.OUT,
// UNIT=CART,DISP=(NEW,CATLG),VOL=(,RETAIN),
// DCB=(RECFM=VB,LRECL=7498,BLKSIZE=32760,BUFNO=45),
// SPACE=(CYL,(2000,1000),RLSE)

This is giving space abend. So how to increase the space still. Because if we are writing to DASD , we can increase the drives from UNTI=PRODDA to UNIT=(PRODDA,10) to use 10 drives. But i have a doubt on how to increase the tape number.
Please help me in this.

IF you are writing in to tapes I think you no need to give space parameter. if you mention the UNIT=tape devise system will allocate the tapes automatically base on size of the file
Thank you

You can also try something like this: the VOL=(,RETAIN,,20), will use 20 tape volumes max. BUFNO=45 is probably to much, it uses up a lot of main memory. Try maybe 10.

Code: Select all

DSN=JIPS.UTYU.MNS135NS.MNS13502.OUT,
DISP=(,CATLG,DELETE),
UNIT=CART,
VOL=(,RETAIN,,20),
DCB=(RECFM=VB,LRECL=7498,BUFNO=10)
