Do certifications Help ???

Post by 83.arun » Thu Apr 22, 2010 7:31 pm

Hi All,

Iam currently into Mainframe Batch & Console operations , Iam planning to do a specialisation in DB2 & taking up a certification is there on my mind.Plz let me know if taking a certification helps in changing profile.
I have talked to my friends/peers & have heard pros & cons on the same but iam not able to make up whether taking up the effort would be really worth it or not ,especially when u r looking out for openings !!!

Kindly advice.

Taking a certification will add few stars to your resume.
It will enhance your knowledge.

my suggestion is to go for db2 certification without too much thinking.

I always learn something from anything I study — even if it’s a children’s book. The real question is: Will certifications help you build your IT consulting business? The answer depends on the type of prospects you’re seeking.

If a prospect requires certain certifications, you should consider the motivations behind their demands and ask yourself whether this client is a good match for your business.
