patching a file

what is meant patching a file using JCL?

Patching means if you have any wrong values in the dataset then correcting them so that the program won't abend.

I'm not very sure what original question is asking, however, unless I misunderstood - "override" is usually used in connection with "override a DD statement". And what Arr Bee has suggested, I usually call that as "editing" the file..."patching" is not a term used in JCL references, it seems to be some local jargon.
