I'm not sure if I got your question - however, I believe, any working-storage variable, which is allowed per the syntax-rules of COBOL is a user defined variable(word? - by the way COBOL does not have words, it has variables and reserved-words, though not user-defined-words).

chanika,
since your threads indicate that you are unable to surf or search,
i will provide this link to the Enterprise COBOL Reference Manual
look at APPENDIX1.4 Appendix D. VS COBOL II Reserved Words.
there is a general link at the top of every page of this website to IBM Manuals.
I realize that you suffer a little because of the language.
I am an english speaker working in germany,
and have found that I can increase my language skills with practice.
use a lexicon/dictionary and google - you will be able to find most everything that you need.
