I was finally able to accomplish this using BUILD.
Here is the sort card that I used :-
LRECL of i/p file = 168, LRECL of o/p file = 168
Data in i/p file is only till 133th column.
The overall aim was to shift data to 35th column into o/p file. I was thinking to use such a sort card which would work irrespective of whether the data in i/p file was till 133th column or even beyond. But the above sort card that I finalized will give me desiredresults only when there is a surety that data in i/p file won't be beyond 133th column.
Am still trying to explore if I could have such a sort card which would just shift the data to o/p file (starting from 35th column), irrespective of even data is beyond 133th column in i/p file - Any ideas for this? _________________ Logically yours,
You can "generalise" it only if your input is variable-length file.
This would copy the RDW (necessary) and leave the first 34 bytes of data blank, then pllace your input data from its first byte (position five for the data, remember, V) until the end of the record (by specifying no limiting length) starting at data position 35 (record position 39),
Foir an F you need to know the length before run-time. Even to convert an F to a V.
