I originally wanted to copy "WORD" & 987 & 543 from a different file (say F1) onto this input file (say F2). the values of these 3 fields are static for all the records in F1, so I was attempting to overlay these values into F2.
Overlaying was straightforward with WORD (since it is alphanumeric) however I could not copy/overlay the values of Field-2 & Field-3 because both of them are ZD/PD.
the problem with using above sort card is that WORD is correctly overlayed since it is an alphanumeric however the other 2 values are seen as 987 & 543 in output file which is not desired because both of them are PD/ZD - the should be seen as some non-displayable characters. _________________ Logically yours,
You can use X'..' or a hexadecimal constant, so a signed packed-decimal value of 543 would be X'543C' and 987 as a signed zoned-decimal would be X'F9F8C7'. Just seperate with commas for clarity (you could specify the whole thing as X'..', but it would be less clear), 995:C'WORD',X'F9F8C7',X'543C', or whatever.
