I need to generate XML for the some fields with end tag alone. Is that possible to generate XML with end tag alone? For Example-
<Features>
<Gender/>
<PhNumber/>
<Address/>
</Features>

When I tried generating XML with ATTRIBUTE and sending spaces to these fields I am getting as below.
<Features>
<Gender> </Gender>
<PhNumber> </PhNumber>
<Address> </Address>
</Features>

Can you provide a link to the documentation which tells you that a lone end-tag is valid XML?

If you want an element with no value, you need <ExampleTagName></ExampleTagName>.

If for some weird reason you do need an end-tag on its own, you're going to have to code it yourself.

Thanks for your response. The Schema provided to me has the end tag alone and I am trying to Generate XML just like schema.

I think as you said <ExampleTagName></ExampleTagName> is fine. But I am getting spaces as the value, like <ExampleTagName> </ExampleTagName>. Will this space make some issue or can we generate the XML without the spaces?

Thanks,
Sankar S

Can you show the revelant part of the schema?

Can you show the definition of the field in COBOL? Is it perhaps PIC X?

Can you show the statement you are using to generate the XML?

Thie is the part of the Schema..
<Reinsurance>
<Reinsurance id="ID633">
<Features>
<DeferredNetPremiumAmt>0</DeferredNetPremiumAmt> <TaxReserveAmt>0</TaxReserveAmt> <id xsi:nil="true"/>
</Features>
<Links>
<OLifEExtension/>
<ReinsuranceKey/>
<ReinsuranceSysKey/>
</Links>
</Reinsurance>
</Reinsurance>

The COBOL declaration for this is
26 Reinsurance.
28 Reinsurance.
30 x7 pic x(10).
30 Features.
32 DeferredNetPremiumAmt pic -9(9).99
occurs 1 times.
32 TaxReserveAmt pic -9(9).99
occurs 1 times.
30 Links.
32 OLifEExtensio2 pic x(01) occurs 1
times.
32 ReinsuranceKey pic x(01) occurs 1
times.
32 ReinsuranceSysKey pic x(01) occurs
1 times.

XML generate statement as follows.
XML GENERATE ws-xml FROM clc-CalculationInput
COUNT IN ws-count1
WITH ATTRIBUTES
END-XML.

Thanks,
Sankar S

OK, interesting, didn't know that would work in a schema Smile

Code:
01  W-ZERO-LEN-FOR-CLOSE-ONLY-TAG COMP PIC 9(4) VALUE ZERO.

32 OLifEExtensio2 pic x(01) occurs 0 TO 1
times DEPENDING ON W-ZERO-LEN-FOR-CLOSE-ONLY-TAG.
32 ReinsuranceKey pic x(01) occurs 0 TO 1
times DEPENDING ON W-ZERO-LEN-FOR-CLOSE-ONLY-TAG.
32 ReinsuranceSysKey pic x(01) occurs 0 TO 1
times DEPENDING ON W-ZERO-LEN-FOR-CLOSE-ONLY-TAG.

Try that.

Thanks for the code..

I tried the code, I am not getting the fields in the XML. But I need the fields with end tag.

Is there any alternate way?

Can you show how you are telling it the Schema? Have you been able to use any other tool (off the Mainframe) to show that the Schema is interpreted correctly, to the level on the Mainframe? Which compiler option are you using for the XML?
