Please find below the exact spool output for one of my sort steps.
The issue is that - on same days this step throws a CC=16, though output file is created without any issues. & on some days, it has a CC=00.
So, I want to remove this thing that is causing the CC=16.

I tried to recreate this scenario using the copies of input files, but I could not get a CC=16, hence am suspicious of REGION parameter.
Please advise.

Are you sure that is the entire output? There isn't more on the next page? Can you post the sysout from one which works, as well?

Does the data need to be sorted, or is it already in sequence?

The data is already sorted.

Yes, that was the entire output.

PFB the output when it does not throw cc=16:-

Next to the first line put the 'SORTED' parametre. Like this:

Code:

       JOINKEYS FILES=F1,FIELDS=(01,64,A),SORTED
       JOINKEYS FILES=F2,FIELDS=(01,64,A),SORTED

This indicates that F1 and F2 are sorted and save you time and space. Try it!

I m not sure who this can help me.
As mentioned earlier, I was not able to recreate this while doing a test run using the copies of production files.

Bill - if you think REGION=5000K is enough (I think so), then I think swapping JNF1 and JNF2 could be the solution. Unfortunately, couldn't recreate the exact scenario in test.
Please advise.

The SORTED helps you by not doing a SORT for that particular JOINKEYS statement. No SORT, no workspace, no out-of-workspace.

Any time you use JOINKEYS, put SORTED on it if the data is already in the sequence needed.

You still haven't shown the sysout from one which works.

The REGION may be part of the problem you have, but if the data is in sequence already and you don't need to SORT it, then the REGION will probably not be a problem.

ShivanoTE,

You can't use SORTED unless you know, as in KNOW, for sure, that the data is already in sequence.

In your failing step you had a massive number of records on the F2.

In your successful step, not many at all.

The failed step probably couldn't get the amount of disk workspace it needed.

Are they really generations of the same file? Why the different blocksizes? Or it is two different GDGs, one on tape?

You didn't answer the question of whether the data needs to be sorted, or it is already in the same order as the JOINKEYS (one or both of them) needs.
