+1 is not a version it is a generation - in GxxxxVyy Gxxxx is generation Vyy is version.
If you are writing to a dataset then the DISP for that dataset should be either OLD or NEW either of which gives a lock on the dataset so no other task can write to it until the dataset has been released.

It would help if you posted rexx queries in the rexx part of the forum. This same rule applies to all posts - post in the correct part of the forum for your query.

1) you should strt a new topic - you can cross-reference it to this. 2) If you used that exact code then it is no wonder that you did not get an email unless your email address really is name@company.com and your file name really is text_file.txt 3) Have you checked with your systems group that A,SM...

You should use the code tags when posting code, data etc. This will preserve spacing and make the code easier to read. On coding style: why do you give an input file a DDname of OUTDD? This is confusing - especially to anyone reading the JCL. If you DID retype the whole program note that it is easie...

Suggest you google 'ebcdic codes' - or, even easier, create a dataset using ispf edit with hex on with all codes from x'00' to x'ff'.

Also, sort queries should be posted in the Sort part of the forum. A moderator may move it later.

The problem with "the book" is that there are multiple ways of doing things and the manual has to cover everything so it can be incomprehensible when you want just a small part of it. But, having been given hints as to what keywords are needed it does become easier to refer to the manual. The DFSort...
