what does the statement //OPTIONS=COPY do?

That would be an invalid statement for DFSORT. It seems to be an odd mix of JCL and parameters. For DFSORT, an example of correct syntax would be:

Code: Select all

//SYSIN DD *
   OPTION COPY
which would tell DFSORT to do a COPY operation.

If you need more help on this, you're going to have to provide more details (e.g. your complete JCL, which sort product you are using, etc).

If you're not familiar with DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL, I'd suggest reading through "z/OS DFSORT: Getting Started". It's an excellent tutorial, with lots of examples, that will show you how to use DFSORT, DFSORT's ICETOOL and DFSORT Symbols.
